REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL COURSES. THERE IS NO COST TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY OF OUR COURSES.

Connections provides a variety of parenting courses and groups.

 There is no cost to participate in any of our programming.

B.A.B.Y. Group (Bright, Active Babies and You)

Parents and their babies meet to enjoy time together. The group offers: social time with other parents, a safe, stimulating environment for your child, information on parenting and child development, special activities for both parent and child, informative speakers, special circles and music, supportive staff (Child care program for older children while you attend the group). Spaces are limited and pre-registration is required.

Children’s Sexual Health

This 6 week course will provide parents of very young children with information about healthy sexual development as well as an opportunity to examine their values, communication style and comfort level with regard to sexuality. Topics include: Parents as Sexuality Educators, Healthy Sexuality, Communication,Values, Child Sexual Abuse and Parenting Resources.

COPEing with Toddler Behaviour

This parenting course provides parents and caregivers of children aged 12 to 36 months an opportunity to enhance their parent-child relationship. Through problem solving discussions and group exercises, the class will explore strategies to help increase the number of positive interactions they have with their young child. This program is offered in conjunction with other partner agencies.

Dads Group

A discussion group led by trained facilitators which provides opportunities to discuss parenting topics of interest to dads with children 0-6 years of age. Guest speakers will be invited to the group to speak on various topics.

Family Math

Family Math is a program for parents and children 3 to 6 years of age. This 6 week program consists of games and activities to help children understand math ideas, and provides a means for parents to reinforce everyday schooling while encouraging their children to have fun as they learn. Parents gain confidence and feel better able to help their children enjoy and understand math in a positive environment. This class is led by 2 trained and experienced program staff and the number of participants is limited to 5 to 7 families at a time.

Going To School

Parents of children entering Full Day Kindergarten (FDK) programs will have an opportunity to network with other parents and receive information about how to make the transition to school a successful one.

Growing Up!

Growing Up has been carefully designed to encourage the development of children’s healthy self-concepts and an awareness of how they connect to the world around them. We believe that the children are the leaders of this program. A variety of play experiences are planned, however, ideas and activities may change according to the individual interests of the children.  Our supportive staff will provide you with parenting and child development materials and information.  At the end of each daily session, the staff will connect with you so that you can learn more about your child’s afternoon.

How To Talk So Kids Will Listen

This is an excellent parenting course based on the work of authors Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish to assist parents with communication skills, managing behaviour and building strong relationships with their children.

Infant Massage

For mothers and fathers and children 0—10 months old (or not yet crawling). Parents experience the benefits and fun of massaging their babies. The group offers: discussion on the benefits of Infant Massage, demonstration of strokes, relaxation techniques for parents, open forum discussions for sharing, information and handouts about Infant Massage, child development and circle time. The Family Child care program is available for older children while you attend the group.

Kids Have Stress Too!

A program of the Psychology Foundation of Canada with teachable stress management strategies for preschool children. Stress among children is estimated to have increased 45% over the past 30 years. The good news is that building emotional health and resiliency can help children concentrate, learn, interact more successfully and deal with other stressors they may face in their lives.

Leadership Development Program

A leadership development education opportunity for parents and community members. Participants will complete a five week leadership course in family support co-facilitation. Upon completion participants may be offered a variety of opportunities to
co-facilitate future connections EYFC courses and groups.

Nobody’s Perfect

A program for parents developed by Health Canada. It is designed to help parents recognize their strengths and to find positive ways to raise healthy, happy children.  Topics discussed include health and safety, child development and discipline strategies. 

Parent-Child Mother Goose Program®

The Parent-Child Mother Goose Program® is a group experience for parents and their young children focusing on the pleasure and power of using oral storytelling. This 7-week program introduces adults and children to using rhymes, songs, and stories together.  Parents gain skills and confidence which can enable them to create positive family patterns during their children’s crucial early years.  Children benefit from enjoyable, healthy early experiences with language and communication.

Parent Interaction

A staff member is the facilitator for this group and it is designed to meet the needs of parents who have taken other parenting courses at the Centre. The goal of this parenting course is to promote discussion and resolution of specific parenting concerns. 

Parenting Matters

This parenting course will provide mothers, fathers and caregivers an opportunity to increase their knowledge and understanding of their own parenting style. Topics Covered: Discipline – How to Encourage Cooperation and How to Manage Children’s Behavior, Helping Your Child with Their Emotions, Toilet Learning, Eating, Sleeping, Sharing, Sibling Relationships etc. Parents are also encouraged to share and discuss their own ideas.

Readers Are Leaders

Readers Are Leaders is the name we have given to all emergent literacy programs and activities offered at the Centre: Readers Are Leaders Circle Time, Leaders Are Leaders Story Time, Readers Are Leaders “I’m Getting Ready!” Parent/Child Program, Readers Are Leaders “I’m Ready!TM” – How to prepare your child for reading success Parent/Child Program.

Sibling Relationships

This parenting course will provide parents with the tools necessary to teach their children how to really listen to each other, respect the differences between themselves, find ways to resolve those differences and equip them with the attitudes and skills they need for caring relationships. Parents are also encouraged to share and discuss their own ideas.

Ten Steps to Positive Discipline

This is a parenting course focusing on positive discipline. Child development, communication, the relationship with your child and other concepts are also explored.

Terrific Toddlers!

Toddlers are developing in so many ways all at the same time. They have their own way of doing things and they might do some things before other children and they might do some things after, but they will all get there in their own time! Terrific Toddlers! is a positive parenting course for mothers and fathers with children 12 to 36 months focusing on toddler development.
